Nissan’s redesigned 370Z was put on display at the Los Angeles auto show last Wednesday. The redesigned model is the automaker’s latest version of the sports car and looks a lot like the original 1970 240Z.

The Nissan 370Z is the successor to the 350Z, and is far more powerful and lighter than the earlier model. The 370Z’s 3.7-liter V6 can increase output by 26hp, and rates at 332 hp and 270 Ib-ft. The two-seater model also redlines at 7,500 rpm. The 370Z has huge fender flares a long nose, and generally looks like a modern take on the Z car model that enthusiasts have been picturing in their minds.

The 370Z can be paired with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic. Both are rated at 26 mpg on the highway and 18 mpg in the city. The car’s gearboxes also have a downshift rev-matching unit for the automatic and a SynchroRev Match system for the manual.

Nissan’s new sports car baby is also much lighter than the earlier models, thanks to the lighter-weight aluminum which was used for the first time on the hood and the door panels. When you move the rear wheels forward on the second-generation FM chassis, the wheelbase shrinks to around four inches. The interiors now also have a prominent tachometer and bigger gauges. It has five-spoke aluminum alloys measuring 18 inches, although consumers can also opt for 19-inch alloys.

The lineup for Nissan’s Z models this year has been narrowed down to two versions: the 370Z Touring and the 370Z. Expected retail price for the new 370Z is estimated to be less than $30,000.
