Mazda Unveils New Mazda 3 Hatchback

hatchback mazda3After the reveal of the Mazda 3 Sedan in the LA Auto Show, the car manufacturer unveils the Mazda 3 Hatchback in Italy. Both Mazda 3’s are expected to hit the European market next spring to be followed by the United States and the rest of the world.

In the United States, two gasoline engine variants will be offered. One will sport a 2.0L that has an output of 148 horsepower and another as a 2.5L power plant that generates 167 horsepower. The European market will be getting different engines to suit the standards of the local market.

The Hatchback that will be enjoyed by the European market will be running on a newly developed MZR-CD turbo diesel 2.2L engine borrowed from the new Mazda 6. This is in addition to the 2.0 and 1.6L variants. Europe will also get the MZ-CD 1.6L turbo engine that runs on diesel.

The 2.2L diesel engine will be produced in two variants. There will be a standard power version which has an output of 150HP at 3500 rpm with a torque of 360Nm. A high power version on the other hand can generate 185HP at 3500 rpm and a torque of 400Nm.

The designers of the car improved its fuel efficiency by as much as 7 to 10%. A 2.0L diesel standard power variant has a fuel rating of 5.4L per 100 km while its high power version extends it to 5.6L per 100 kilometers.

The European release of the Mazda 3 Hatchback was calibrated to have an excellent emission performance following the guidelines of the Euro Stage 5.
