Texting While Driving, The Dangers: 2

November 26th, 2009

texting-706480Now that we have talked a little bit about texting and driving, let’s go ahead and explore some of the dangers that you might experience when you are attempting to text and drive.  One of the first things that you need to understand is that driving is operating a heavy machine that does take a lot of concentration and focus.

When you are driving, there should be very little distractions if any at all and when you add in texting to the mix, you are not only distracted but you are also trying to type out words or update statuses.  These things take away from your focus.

In the next blog, we are going to talk about what that can mean for you and your driving skills.

Texting While Driving, The Dangers: 1

November 25th, 2009

texting-imageIn this day and age it seems that texting is one of those things that is a necessity for many people.  To be quite frank, I have seen people texting while they are doing everything from driving all the way to working and that is what we are here to talk about.  Texting while you are driving is very, very dangerous.

While there might be some things that you want to get the word out on, if you are intent on texting while driving, make sure that you pull over and do it instead of while driving.  One of the major reasons why so many people get into accidents is the fact that they are texting while driving.

In the next blog, we are going to talk about just how dangerous it truly is and what can happen if you do text and drive.

Detroit Auto Show Is Going To Be Filled With VIPs!

November 20th, 2009

Auto Show

If you are one of the few people that has never, ever been to the Detroit Auto Show in January, you need to make sure that you make an appearance at this years.  While I know the hotels are filling up quickly, I can tell you that this show is going to be filled with tons of political VIPs this year, as GM and Chrysler are required a combine $80 billion dollars in government assistance.

The 2010 is a fantastic way for the government to keep an eye on its investment and I can tell you that, that is exactly what they are going to do.  There are going to be a ton of different government agents there and I think that is fantastic.

It is about time that the government got involved in the automakers money and dealing with them.  However … if someone from the government takes my ticket for this great show, I’m going to get pissed!

GM News: Are They Pulling Out Of The Ren Cen?

November 19th, 2009

rencen-gm-hq-fist-630-getty

Michigan has always held a special place in my heart – it is my home state and Detroit … while not my home city; it is certainly a special place.  So when I read in The Detroit News that GM has gone on the record stating that without the state tax credits, they would have to pull out of the skyline and actually move to the suburbs and surrounding areas.

Now, I have to tell you that this particular building in huge.  I have been inside of it and have actually stayed at the Marriott there and the number of jobs that would be lost is incredible.  Basically – GM needs to have 2,500 employees working and pay out about $60 million dollars in order to qualify for the incentives and tax breaks.

Do I think that is going to happen? Well, if anyone can do it, GM can and I think that they will.

The Hummer HX Concept: What?

November 18th, 2009

Hummer HX Concept

I feel like we have talked about the Hummer HX Concept before – I feel that I have spoken about this particular SUV over and over again … ah, I know what it is – it is a reflection of the last post I did!  Hummer is known for their rugged SUV’s and I have to say that this particular concept SUV has been in limbo since GM announced it.

The first thing that they are trying to do before actually building the Hummer HX Concept is to arrest all of the free-fall of hummer sales.  Right now … the Hummer sale are down about 64% to be exact and while sales are looking up in 2010 … that is not right now.

While the Hummer HX Concept is certainly a cool looking Hummer, it is at the bottom of the list right now.

2010 Hummer H3: Come See It!

October 31st, 2009

2010 Hummer H3 Oh the Hummer – what have you done to yourself?  What happened to the days where the Hummer could go through the water, go through anything really and honestly … I miss the days when the Hummer was strictly an army vehicle and nothing more.  However – I do have to report on the brand new 2010 Hummer H3 for you guys.

Firstly, let’s go ahead and clear something up about Hummers right now.  They are not actually worse for the environment – they are on par with any other SUV, which is something that many people have no idea about.  For example, the 2010 Hummer H3 is no worse for the environment than any other SUV out there.

However, they are switching up the 2010 Hummer H3 to make it more eco-friendly … those specs haven’t been released just yet though.

October 30th, 2009

2010 BMW R 1200 GS I have always been a huge, huge motorcycle fan.  While this is a blog that focuses mainly on cars but I thought that we would go ahead and throw up a motorcycle and damn – what a motorcycle this is.  The 2010 BMW R 1200 GS is actually one of my favorite cycles out there and with good reason.  This is an adventure touring bike – and with good reason.

The greatest thing about the 2010 BMW R 1200 GS is that it truly can tackle anything that you throw at it and it’s even been compared to an air-cooled mule but autoblog.com.  Off-road?  No problem for the 2010 BMW R 1200 GS, for it attacks everything from paved back roads all the way to super longer stretches of superslab!

The 2010 BMW R 1200 GS is the ultimate adventure bike and if you are an ORer – you should definitely check it out!

Laptop Steering Wheel Desk: …

October 29th, 2009

Laptop Steering Wheel DeskSo I am one of the most distracted drivers most of the time – I mean, I am constantly on my cell phone … not texting, but I do talk on it and now folks – there is one more thing that can distract us.  This is the Laptop Steering Wheel Desk.  I had no idea that something like this could ever actually make it onto the market, but it has.

This thing is actually pretty cool though because while you can not actually have your laptop on it, you can write notes on it and if you are a teen – where can you write your phone umber down?  Steering is overrated anyway right?

If you are looking for something that is pretty neat and a gadget for your car, the Laptop Steering Wheel Desk might be perfect for Christmas!

Mythbusters test golf ball-like dimpling on MPG!

October 24th, 2009

Mythbusters test golf ball-like dimpling on MPG For those of you that have never, ever heard of Mythbusters, they are actually scientists that have this show on the Discovery Channel and they are doing more and more experiments that involve cars, or trucks or – something with a motor.  Recently, they actually tried to see if a car covered in golf-ball sized dimples would have more fuel-efficiency.

The result?  Well, it works!  To keep the experiment consistent, all 1,082 dimples removed from the clay exterior were put in a box and set in the back seat so that the car would weigh exactly the same as before dimpling. The theory is that, like a golf ball, the dimples would reduce the car’s drag through the air, thus allowing it to travel the same distance at the same speed using less fuel.

The result? Over 29 mpg, which is 4 miles over the estimated 26 mpg before the experiment!

The Ford Kuga: It’s Coming To The States!

October 23rd, 2009

Ford KugaFor those of you that think that Ford is not making money overseas or even producing cars strictly for overseas consumers … you are wrong.  Have you ever heard of the Ford Kuga?  Probably not because this particular COV is actually just produced in Europe and it is not available for sale in the states, however … it is coming back.

Ford actually plans to build as many as 80,000 units of the Ford Kuga here for export overseas.  They are actually bringing the production back to the states and honestly, that is going to make UAW very, very happy, which is the ultimate goal of Ford right?

Right now, Ford is awaiting the ratification of the new labor deal that would honestly put labor costs of the Dearborn, MI based automaker on a nearly equal footing with GM – which is good!
