Detroit Auto Show Is Going To Be Filled With VIPs!

November 20th, 2009

Auto Show

If you are one of the few people that has never, ever been to the Detroit Auto Show in January, you need to make sure that you make an appearance at this years.  While I know the hotels are filling up quickly, I can tell you that this show is going to be filled with tons of political VIPs this year, as GM and Chrysler are required a combine $80 billion dollars in government assistance.

The 2010 is a fantastic way for the government to keep an eye on its investment and I can tell you that, that is exactly what they are going to do.  There are going to be a ton of different government agents there and I think that is fantastic.

It is about time that the government got involved in the automakers money and dealing with them.  However … if someone from the government takes my ticket for this great show, I’m going to get pissed!

GM News: Are They Pulling Out Of The Ren Cen?

November 19th, 2009

Michigan has always held a special place in my heart – it is my home state and Detroit … while not my home city; it is certainly a special place.  So when I read in The Detroit News that GM has gone on the record stating that without the state tax credits, they would have to pull out of the skyline and actually move to the suburbs and surrounding areas.

Now, I have to tell you that this particular building in huge.  I have been inside of it and have actually stayed at the Marriott there and the number of jobs that would be lost is incredible.  Basically – GM needs to have 2,500 employees working and pay out about $60 million dollars in order to qualify for the incentives and tax breaks.

Do I think that is going to happen? Well, if anyone can do it, GM can and I think that they will.

Mythbusters test golf ball-like dimpling on MPG!

October 24th, 2009

Mythbusters test golf ball-like dimpling on MPG For those of you that have never, ever heard of Mythbusters, they are actually scientists that have this show on the Discovery Channel and they are doing more and more experiments that involve cars, or trucks or – something with a motor.  Recently, they actually tried to see if a car covered in golf-ball sized dimples would have more fuel-efficiency.

The result?  Well, it works!  To keep the experiment consistent, all 1,082 dimples removed from the clay exterior were put in a box and set in the back seat so that the car would weigh exactly the same as before dimpling. The theory is that, like a golf ball, the dimples would reduce the car’s drag through the air, thus allowing it to travel the same distance at the same speed using less fuel.

The result? Over 29 mpg, which is 4 miles over the estimated 26 mpg before the experiment!

Fiat Punto Evo: It Gets A Makeover!

September 18th, 2009

Fiat Punto EvoNow – The Fiat Punto Evo is a car that is supposed to look almost like a Maserati in a hatchback form, however – the Italian automaker actually updated the Fiat Punto Evo and they wanted it to be a surprise for the public.  To me – this is exactly the makeover that was needed, for it will definitely put Fiat back on the map.

Visually, the Fiat Punto Evo has all sorts of new things!  New bumpers, new lights front and rear, a brand new grille and a handful of little and modern touches that truly does make this beautiful car look amazing and feel very – very good.

Although, the Fiat Punto Evo hardly ranks among the many European hatchbacks, I think that this little car is definitely on its way of making it in the rankings!

2009 Dunkel Industries RV Anyone?

September 1st, 2009

2009 Dunkel Industries RV Dunkel industries are a company that I have never … ever heard of.  In all my years of blogging for cars, I do not think that they have ever crossed my mind but now – they are certainly crossing my head.  This is a truck … an RV that tops all RVs.  This is the Luxury 4×4 that is not only in charge of every lane that it happens to be in, but this is an RV that is serious.  You want bigger, you want better?  This is the friggin’ truck for you!

This is a truck that is so big that half of the time you can not get into it!  This is one true off-road vehicle and to be honest, that is exactly what they created it for.  Dunkel is under the impression that there is no trail that this particular ORV can not handle and that is why they wanted it so big and fierce!

So if you – if you are looking for a truck that is going to handle everything you throw at it.  This is the truck for you, I can promise you that!

Trans. Dept. Hires More People: Let’s Get Those Rebates Out!

August 11th, 2009

cash-for-clunkers-ford-dealer-banner-630-gettyIf there was one thing that the government did not expect, it was the overwhelming response that people had when the Cash for Clunkers program came into play.  To be honest, I did not think that we would actually be able to pull it off, however it seems that the auto industry is booming right now and instead of laying off – they are actually having to hire people in order to process the rebates for the Cash for Clunkers program.

If there is one thing that I know about Detroiter’s, it is the fact that if they are owed money, they want it right away – and that is why the transportation department is actually hiring people so that the paperwork can get processed faster.  That is the greatest thing in the world … honestly.

So far, about $1.63 billion dollars has gone into this particular program and about 400,000 vouchers have been turned in by dealers, which is amazing!

The Dodge Viper: Is It Going Away?

July 12th, 2009

Dodge ViperWe have all been extremely unsure of the future of the Dodge Viper since last summer – there has been talk of the Viper just being killed and Dodge has also considered selling off the rights to the Viper to any potential buyers.  Some of those buyers include Roush and Saleen, however, the dwindling economy has led to just one lowball offer for the rights of this particular car from Michigan-based Devon Motor Works.

Right now, the Viper is not for sale – while the car will still be available for the select buyers that are looking for this car, it is not going to be for sale to the general public and after 2010, Dodge is very uncertain about the life of Dodge Viper, if it is going to live or not.

Personally, I hope that it does because I think that the Viper is one of those cars that is so classic – so beautiful and should not be killed.  Hell, if I had enough money – I’d buy the rights!
