Winter Driving, How To Do It: 2

061215_winterDriving_hLarge_12p.hlargeNow that we have talked about your speed — let’s go ahead and move onto how you should stop when it is snowy out.  One thing that I do in order to stop myself from skidding all over the place is pumping my brakes.  Just braking extremely gently can actually make all of the difference.

You also want to make sure that you have your lights on, that way any other drivers can see exactly where you are.  If you are driving in a manual car, you want to make sure that you use low gears – that way you will keep the traction that you have.

Do not ever use cruise control when you are driving in the snow, as it can actually make you hit bad spots versus avoiding them.
